{"id":1357,"date":"2017-12-29T14:34:53","date_gmt":"2017-12-29T14:34:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.imo.ptlaser-argon\/"},"modified":"2019-05-02T14:13:35","modified_gmt":"2019-05-02T14:13:35","slug":"laser-argon","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.imo.pt\/en\/tratamentos\/laser-argon\/","title":{"rendered":"Argon Laser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When the temperature of the target tissue exceeds 65\u00baC, denaturation of its proteins occurs, resulting in what is called Coagulative Necrosis.<\/p>\n<p>The effectiveness of Photocoagulation depends on how the beam of light penetrates the ocular surface and how it is absorbed by target tissue &#8211; light is absorbed primarily in ocular tissues containing melanin, xantholytic pigment and hemoglobin. The area of \u200b\u200beffective photocoagulation (diameter and depth) is also related to the intensity, duration and size of the \u201cspot\u201d used.<\/p>\n<p>The treatment of Photocoagulation is performed with topical anesthesia using a special contact lens suitable for the type of treatment and area of \u200b\u200bthe eye to be treated.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"h5 mt-5\">Argon Laser treatment is mainly used in the following medical conditions:<\/h2>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-lg-6\">\n<strong>Glaucoma<\/strong><br \/>\nUsed in Iridectomies, Iridoplasties and Trabeculoplasties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vascular Retinal Diseases <\/strong><br \/>\nMainly in Diabetic Retinopathy (where photocoagulation is of fundamental importance to prevent disease progression and blindness), but also in the processes of Venous Thrombosis, Macro aneurysms, Retinal Vasculitis situations, and in all clinical situations that may give rise to Retinal Ischemia that is always likely to complicate with the formation of neo-vessels which may give result in serious intraocular complications.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-lg-6\">\n<strong>Vitreous hemorrhages and complicated retinal detachments<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Degenerative Diseases of the Peripheral Retina<\/strong><br \/>\nRetinal holes or tears that, if untreated, may result Retinal Detachment.
